Job summary

University of Michigan in Flint is seeking a part-time Laboratory Support Attendant to assist the College of Innovation & Technology. The role focuses on safety and stockroom duties, supporting weekly needs and maintaining standard logs.

You will perform safety inspections, help draft SOPs, handle package deliveries, and conduct stock counts. The position requires being a current UM‑Flint student, ability to work with others and independently, and adherence to lab protocols including BSL‑2

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled UM-Flint student (any academic standing).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Positive attitude and motivated.
  • Accurate input into safety and stockroom logs.
  • Ability to work with common maintenance chemicals (Ethanol, Sodium Bicarbonate).
  • Able to work a consistent schedule, including shifts encompassing at least 3 hours/day.
  • Comfortable working and following protocol for labs in the department, as well as BSL2 spaces (aseptic technique, sterility).

Responsibilities

  • Inventory & Stock: Receive and deliver packages, perform stockroom inventory counts, other duties as assigned.

Job description

We are performing updates and maintenance to improve the applicant experience. As a result, the site will be unavailable from Saturday, August 29, at 9:00 p.m. ET through Sunday, August 30, at 8:00 a.m. ET. During this outage period, applications for job postings cannot be submitted.

Job Summary

The attendant will work under the direction of the Laboratory Support Supervisor assisting the College of Innovation & Technology. The position was designed to support the various safety and stockroom needs that arise weekly.

Responsibilities*

Safety

  • Perform laboratory safety inspections and correct any deficiencies
  • Assist with the creation of standard operating procedures for laboratories
  • Collect hazardous waste, chemical and/or biohazardous

Inventory and Stock

  • Receive and deliver packages
  • Perform stockroom inventory counts
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
  • Currently enrolled UM-Flint student (any academic standing)
  • Be able to work both independently and with a team
  • Positive attitude and motivated
  • Ability to accurately input information into associated safety and stockroom logs
  • Ability to work with common maintenance chemicals (Ethanol, Sodium Bicarbonate)
  • Able to work a consistent schedule, including shifts encompassing at least 3 hours/day
  • Comfortable working and following protocol for labs in the department, as well as BSL2 spaces (aseptic technique, sterility)
Modes of Work

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
