Job description

Lab Associate II/Phlebotomist - Full Time, Days

Join Anna Jaques Hospital (AJH), a distinguished not-for-profit community hospital in Newburyport, Massachusetts, serving the Merrimack Valley, North Shore, and Southern New Hampshire regions since 1884. Located just 35 miles from Boston, AJH offers a supportive environment within Beth Israel Lahey Health, a large healthcare system with over 39,000 staff dedicated to providing high-quality care to over 1.7 million people across Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Ensuring proper patient identification with two identifiers (name and date of birth) and verifying labels and wristbands.
• Verifying outpatient order accuracy.
• Collecting patient samples on the first attempt 95% of the time to demonstrate competency.
• Assessing patient status prior to releasing samples, including proper hemostasis.
• Following the triple check policy for order accuracy, including initialing each specimen label.
• Greeting and processing outpatients, adhering to screening procedures and obtaining complete order forms and demographic info.
• Practicing AIDET customer service standards.
• Utilizing LIS for result queries, label printing, collection lists, reports, and order entry.
• Responding to emergency activations per policy (e.g., stroke alert, Code Blue, trauma).
• Organizing blood collections by priority without batching ED blood draws.

Scheduled Hours: 37.5 hrs/week, rotating weekends and holidays

Work Shift: Days

Education Required: High School diploma; Medical Assistant or accredited phlebotomy program preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications: Heart Saver or BLS; national certification preferred.

Experience: 6 months related work experience desired, but may be waived based on applicant strengths.
