Ochsner Health in New Orleans, LA, seeks a Laboratory Assistant Trainee/Phlebotomy role to perform specimen collection and processing in a fast-paced hospital lab.
Requires a High School diploma; phlebotomy training preferred. Candidates must obtain and submit Louisiana License as a Laboratory Assistant and apply to the State Board within set timelines, with strong data entry and communication skills.

This job performs various laboratory functions which support the department which may include phlebotomy; specimen receiving and processing into the LIS; centrifugation; aliquoting, labeling and distribution of specimens to the appropriate test sites. This job may also perform waived and moderately complex procedures; maintain and monitor equipment; and perform appropriate quality control.

Required -High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred -Formal phlebotomy training
Required -None.
Preferred - 1 year hospital based phlebotomy experience
Required-Proof of application to the State Board as a Laboratory Assistant Trainee or Laboratory Assistant in the state of practice must be acquired and submitted to Laboratory Management within 90 days from date of hire
Louisiana License as a Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Assistant Trainee must be acquired and submitted to Laboratory Management within 180 days from date of hire

Duties performed routine require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
