Job summary

Prevea Health in Wisconsin seeks a PRN Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist to support laboratory operations, perform phlebotomy, process specimens, and ensure safety protocols are followed. The role reports to the lab leader and offers as-needed scheduling.

You will collect venous and capillary samples, label and track specimens, and assist in patient care before and after procedures. CPR/BLS is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on adult, neonatal and pediatric patients according to established protocol.

• Check-in patients and verify information while processing test orders in Epic and LIS.
• Instruct patients on urine, stool, and other specimen collection procedures and obtain samples for drug screening.
• Prepare equipment, stock supplies, and maintain clean work areas; manage entry in the LIS.

Job Summary

The Lab Assistant is responsible for supporting laboratory operations by performing phlebotomy on patients, maintaining lab equipment, processing of specimens, performing tests and quality control, and ensuring the lab safety protocols are followed. This role reports to the lab leader.

What you will do

• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on adult, neonatal and pediatric patients according to established protocol. Identifies and labels specimens. Assists in care of patient prior to, during, and after collection.
• Check-in patients and verify that all necessary information is accurate and complete while processing the test orders in the computer system, utilizing both Epic and Laboratory Information System according to laboratory protocol.
• Instruct patients in all urine, stool, and other bodily fluid collection procedures and testing requirements and obtain and process urine specimen for drug screening.
• Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products and cleans and maintains equipment in work area. Inventories supplies for re-order, and routinely stock supplies.
• Answer telephones, maintain logs, create files, maintain inventories of supplies. Order entry in the laboratory information system.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or GED Required
