The Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist supports lab operations by processing and handling patient specimens for diagnostic testing in an accurate and timely manner and following established protocols. The Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist is responsible for receiving, centrifuging, storing, and transporting/distributing samples according to protocol in order to maintain sample integrity. The Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist is responsible for performing phlebotomy and collecting blood specimens via venipuncture or other micro-technique as required by local needs. The Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist provides customer service in all interactions with patients, physician and nursing personnel when providing instruction and assistance regarding laboratory testing results. May perform basic laboratory techniques and or testing congruent with CLIA requirements.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent AND Experience: 1-2 years' previous Laboratory Experience preferred. Prior laboratory assistance and/or phlebotomy training required at certain laboratory locations.
Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
