Job summary

Huntsville Hospital is seeking a phlebotomist to perform venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing. The role requires proper patient identification and strict adherence to specimen collection procedures.

You will process specimens, enter outpatient orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and collect chain-of-custody drug screens as needed. Experience with waived testing and a current BLS certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, phlebotomy training preferred.
• Must provide evidence to perform waived testing.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing.
• Identifies patients properly and follows procedures for specimen collection.
• Processes and receives specimens into the laboratory per protocol.
• Enters outpatient orders into Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Collects chain of custody drug screens for pre-employment, post-accident, and just-cause cases as required.
• Assists with frozen sections and clerical duties as needed.
• Performs other related functions as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• A high school diploma or GED; Completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy procedures from an accredited school or training program preferred. Must provide documented evidence to perform waived testing.

Experience

One year phlebotomy experience including obtaining specimens from neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients is preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required along with moderate knowledge of medical terminology.
