Schedule: Days, 7am-3:30pm or 8am-4:30pm rotating holidays and weekends as needed

Responsibilities

The Laboratory Assistant will follow CLIA guidelines. Unlicensed laboratory personnel (“aides”) may not read, result, verify, or interpret laboratory tests. They may not perform tests involving quantitative measurements, instrument calibration, or quality control review without supervision. The role includes:

1. Performing computer entry, filing, and clerical duties
2. Greeting patients and visitors politely
3. Possessing good communication skills
4. Understanding test terminology
5. Knowledge of phlebotomy and specimen collection equipment
6. Processing specimens across various laboratory departments (pre-analytic phase)
7. Processing specimens for reference labs
8. Stocking and ordering supplies
9. Maintaining cleanliness of storage and collection areas
10. Processing specimens on laboratory instruments
11. With proper training, performing instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control, primary culture inoculations, slide staining, and subcultures
12. Additional tasks as assigned by the department manager/director
13. Assisting in Pathology with training and evaluation
14. Running errands and assisting in transcribing post-analytic results

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or Equivalent required
• Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience preferred
• State Certified as CPT I or CPT II if required by state
• Current BLS certification preferred
