Job summary

Marine Biological Laboratory in Falmouth, MA seeks a Research Assistant I to oversee care and maintenance of laboratory animal colonies, including butterflies, crustaceans, and other marine invertebrates, supporting experiments on developmental evolution.

You will collaborate with Patel Lab researchers to prepare animals for experiments, collect data, and assist with courses, while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Daily observations of animal colony health and wellbeing, monitor growth, and provide care as needed to ensure optimal health and development.
• Care for Parhyale colony essential to lab research, monitor and maintain water quality and environmental conditions for proper growth.
• Support the butterfly colony, monitor caterpillars’ conditions for proper growth and development.
• Maintain supplies and assist with inventory to keep the lab organized and efficient.
• Stay updated on industry news and publications to implement new methods for animal husbandry.

Responsibilities

• Oversee care and maintenance of butterfly, crustacean, and other marine invertebrate colonies.
• Collaborate with Patel Lab researchers to prepare animals for experiments and data collection.
• Assist with experiments including embryo collection, dissections, and imaging as needed.
• Ensure compliance with internal guidelines and federal regulations for animal care.
• Assist with yearly courses and training activities related to the lab.
