Job summary

INEOS Nitriles is seeking a Lab Technician/Analyst at the Green Lake Facility in Port Lavaca, TX. The role involves analyzing product and process streams, preparing samples, and reporting results to support operations and quality control.

Requires a GED/HS diploma and at least one year in a chemical lab or related science field. Work includes a 12-hour rotating shift, safety training, and collaboration with chemists, lab analysts and I&E technicians.

Qualifications

  • Minimal GED or High School diploma required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a chemical laboratory or advanced science education is required.
  • Strong computer and instrument operation skills, plus basic report writing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses using GC, HPLC, UV and pH meters.
  • Prepare solutions, samples and reagents; communicate results to team.
  • Maintain lab instruments, safety practices and housekeeping.
  • Coordinate shipping of lab samples and support operations and shipping teams.

Job Title

LAB TECHNICIAN/ANALYST

Job Purpose

The Laboratory Technician’s primary role is analysis of and report on product and process streams. Additionally, the analyst performs tasks associated with efficient, optimal and safe laboratory performance. The position provides technical support for operations, logistics, sales, and marketing, as well as support of other Business Unit improvement efforts.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Execute job activities in a safe and efficient manner consistent with the INEOS 20 Principles and the Culture of Prevention.
  • Embrace Life Saving Rules in all aspects of the job.
  • Complete prescribed tasks of lab operation in a safe and timely manner.
  • Train and qualify for all jobs within operating lab areas.
  • Train individually as workload permits during normal work schedule and in classes as scheduled.
  • Operate in compliance with laboratory procedures, company/plant policies, regulatory and legal requirements, and sound scientific ethics.
  • Comply with oral and written instructions from supervisor(s).
  • Work directly with other lab analysts, I&E technicians, operational technicians, shipping technicians and chemists to mutually solve analytical and operational problems.
  • Perform a variety of tasks on plant products at various stages of synthesis. This includes sampling, communicating results, preparing solutions and reagents, and peer training.
  • Perform maintenance, calibration, and quality assurance of laboratory instrumentation and environment to maintain and ensure accurate results.
  • Coordinate shipping of lab samples.
  • Qualitative analyses such as appearance/visual observations and pass/fail evaluation.
  • Quantitative analyses such as weight and volume measurements; instrumentational techniques (GC, HPLC, UV, pH, ect.); manual and instrumental titrations.
  • Evaluation and record‑keeping such as manual calculations, LIMS, trending, analytical verification, and laboratory document use and maintenance.
  • Promptly communicates abnormal conditions to supervision.
  • Maintains clean and orderly area and reports all safety hazards immediately to the supervisor.
  • Dispose of laboratory waste streams in accordance with laboratory procedures and plant/lab safety regulations.
Working Hours

Works a rotating 12-hour shift under supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, or designated management. Hours include weekends, holidays, and overtime assignments as necessitated by Lab Operations.

Education/Experience Required

Minimal GED or High School diploma required. A minimum of one year of experience in a chemical laboratory and/or advanced science education is required.

Skills/Competencies
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) and LIMS desired.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  • Strong computational and analytical ability preferred.
  • Knowledge of the following is desired: Liquid and Gas Chromatography, UV spectrophotometer, pH, Turbidity and Conductivity Meters, Metrohm Auto-Titrators, Hach Meters and methods, Atomic Absorption, Manual wet chemistry techniques, O2 Bomb Analyzers, etc.
Physical Requirements

Don Self Containing Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands. The employee must occasionally walk, stand and travel by car, or other means. Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Employee must be able to physically evacuate from the site in a safe manner without assistance. Climbing; ascending or descending ladders, stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. This job is performed mainly in a temperature-controlled laboratory environment. As required, the incumbent is expected to perform some work outside under hot or cold conditions.
