Job summary

Transdev North America is seeking an Autonomous Specialist to support depot operations. You will service autonomous vehicles, prep them for driver testing missions, perform asset management and cleaning tasks, and respond to in-field events as needed.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED (a 4-year degree preferred) and at least 3 years driving on public roads, with a clean driving record. Competitive pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; a four-year degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency with laptop and GSuite apps (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets).
  • Must have and maintain a driving record that meets applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate/drive van or other vehicle five days a week; may be solo or with a co-driver.
  • Respond quickly to changing, high-pressure environments.
  • Handle heavy equipment up to 50 pounds and assist with basic vehicle adjustments.
  • Set up cars for charging and prep for startup and testing.
  • Complete daily reports and maintain shift checklists.
  • Disinfect vehicles and prepare sanitization kits.
  • Assist with asset inventory, checkout/return, and packing/ship of equipment.

This role is the backbone of daily operations, primarily focused on depot work. L-1 associates are responsible for servicing fully autonomous vehicles, preparing them for driver testing missions, and performing asset management and cleaning tasks. Additionally, they provide in‑field event response when needed to ensure smooth operations.

This position serves as the foundation for building essential knowledge of our Autonomous Vehicle Fleet. By continuously developing skills and demonstrating proficiency in key responsibilities, you'll be prepared for advancement into Autonomous Vehicle operations and other technical roles within our structure.

Pay Rate: $24.00- $26.00

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate/Drive van/truck or other car, (assignment may be alone or with a co-driver) five days a week; able to sit still and stand for long periods of time;
  • Capable of responding quickly to changing and potentially high-pressure environments;
  • Responsible for gathering, lifting and transporting heavy computer equipment of up to 50 pounds
  • Install equipment and ensure it starts successfully
  • Complete duties in a timely manner while adhering to schedules
  • Complete daily reports and documents
  • Assist with simple vehicle adjustments and settings while cars are parked.
  • Set up cars for charging and maneuver cars in parking lot
  • Disinfect cars, workstations and prepare sanitization kits.
  • Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety, inside and outside of the vehicle;
  • Work mostly individually but also in small groups of 2-10 people;
  • Be the deputy for vehicle launch and preparation
  • Communicate any uploading errors while also focusing on high priority uploads.
  • Package and ship equipment needing repair.
  • Assist with asset inventory/check in/checkout process
  • Responsible for pushing shift efficiency (Fast Startup)
  • Basic troubleshooting at shift startup.
  • Ensuring startup and shift checklists are being followed.
  • Demonstrating continuous development and proficiency in the above key responsibilities in preparation for advancement into Autonomous Vehicle operations and other technical roles
  • All other duties as assigned
Required Education And Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Four-year college degree (preferred) in a related field like industrial or applied sciences;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience driving on public roads. Additional experience is preferred;
Required Knowledge Skills And Abilities (KSAs)
  • Proficiency with laptop computers and GSuite apps (i.e. Gmail, Chats, and Drive, including Sheets and Docs);
  • Proficiency with using a touchscreen smartphone (Android preferred by not required); and
  • Must be able to type at least 40 adjusted wpm
  • Must have and maintain a driving record that meets state AVT (Autonomous Vehicle Tester) and/or other applicable regulations and laws; and
  • Meets driver requirements, including driving record and criminal history under applicable regulations and laws in the state(s) in which the self-driving vehicle monitor will be working.
  • Ability to parallel park with minimal assistance preferred.
  • Must have good attention to detail.
  • Adapt quickly to new and developing technology and processes;
  • Must be able to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, as well as overnight shifts and travel for up to one month;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Must be self‑motivated and demonstrate good judgment, in fast‑paced, high stress environments.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional long periods of standing, walking, and sitting
  • Ability to climb stairs and/ or ladders, use of hands/and or fingers, ability to talk and/ or hear.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Must use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Most work is accomplished outdoors in a vehicle
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Must be 21 years old;
  • Upon acceptance of work, must be willing to be enrolled in a commercial driving program, including a randomized drug testing program
  • Meets driver requirements, including driving record and criminal history under applicable regulations and laws in the state(s) in which the self‑driving vehicle monitor will be working.
  • Must have and maintain a driving record that meets California AVT program and/or other applicable regulations and laws, which presently include:
  • Does not have more than 1 point on the driving record;
  • Has not been convicted for driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug;
  • Has not had any driver’s license suspension or revocation based on driving or operating any vehicle under the influence of alcohol or any drug in the past 10 years;
  • Has not ever been the at‑fault driver of a motor vehicle involved in an accident that resulted in injury or death of any person.
  • All Transdev employees must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Safety Sensitive Positions will also be subject to a physical screening
  • Transdev maintains a Drug Free Workplace and may require participation in a random drug screening program.
  • Transdev reserves the right to perform ongoing background checks for all employees except in states where this is prohibited by state law. Transdev will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements.
