Make a difference for crime victims as our Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 3. In this role, you’ll provide crime victims and their family or dependents relief to limit economic hardship to these victims. You’ll provide direct customer service and will independently manage a caseload of complex and catastrophic crime victim compensation claims.

Crime types include gross misdemeanor or felony crimes which may be catastrophic, graphic, sensitive and traumatic in nature and may include physical and/or mental health injury resulting from physical assaults, sexual assaults, vehicular crimes and homicides. Benefits may include paying for medical treatment, limited wage loss, limited pension, burial expenses up to maximum amount, and counseling for the victim, family members of sexual assault and family members of homicide victims.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Regulate Crime Victim Compensation claims for compliance with RCWs, WACs, case law, policies, and training resources in accordance with the Crime Victims Act RCW 7.68 and 7.69.
  • Establish rate of compensation for allowed Crime Victim Compensation benefit payments.
  • Determine applicable monetary offsets if claimant is eligible for time loss but receiving other monetary benefits from other sources.
  • Evaluate ongoing medical/mental health management of claims including treatment, transfer of physician, surgery, diagnostic studies, etc.
  • Respond within 48 hours to email and/or telephone inquiries regarding claim information, department rules and regulations and the claim adjudication process.
  • Review for “good cause” consideration and makes recommendations if “good cause” is or is not met.
  • Review for pension consideration and ensure all required documents are obtained before referring the claim to the Pension Adjudicator.
  • Make decisions on requests for reopening of claims.
  • Resolve protests by reviewing current information within the claim file and/or obtaining new information in order to resolve the protested issue by issuing further determinative order.
  • Provide testimony at Board of Industrial Appeal hearings regarding appealed claims.

Required:

Successful completion of the Department of Labor and Industries Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 2 Apprenticeship program.

AND

Six months of experience as a Workers’ Compensation Adjudicator 2.

OR

Bachelor’s degree

AND

Two years of experience in adjudicating workers’ or crime victims’ compensation insurance claims, or adjudication of time loss payments.

OR

Equivalent education/experience.

This position is bilingual preferred – Spanish. If candidate is bilingual and successfully completes HR bilingual testing, the candidate will communicate with internal and external customers in both English and their bilingual language

Desired:

  • Experience in claims/insurance adjusting, claim investigation, paramedical occupation or related field will substitute year for year of education.
  • Individuals with two years customer service experience which includes sharing information, making decisions, and implementing solutions.
  • Be able to access and move between multiple computer programs, databases, word processing, imaging systems and Internet to enter and update information and type 40 words per minutes accounting for errors.

For this position, telework is permitted part time. The assigned duty station for this position is Tumwater, Washington.

Initial training will take place in-office/in person up to 4-5 days a week.

For positions where in-office work is necessary,the frequency of telework will be discussed with the supervisor of the position at the time of offer.
