Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) – Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) seeks a Consultation Operations Safety Specialist (OSHPRO3) statewide to help employers strengthen safety and health programs. You will provide technical assistance, lead programs and conduct onsite evaluations to improve workplace safety.
This role requires strong communication, program leadership, and ability to travel between worksites.

Industrial Hygienists and Safety & Health Professionals will be compensated basic salary plus 10%for each hour they are required to use personal protective equipment (excluding hard hats, boots, hearing and eye protection) to enter a hazardous worksite to consult, inspect or investigate where serious hazards are present.

If hired as bilingual (not required), after passing an assessment of your ability to write and speak fluently. We do not use translating software. Employees with bilingual responsibilities receive a 5% increase in pay.

This is a statewide role where your expertise will help employers build stronger safety and health programs and recognize workplaces that are making safety a priority. You’ll work with a wide range of customers and partners, provide technical assistance and training, conduct onsite evaluations, and help lead several of DOSH’s voluntary safety programs.

For this position, teleworking is permitted on occasion dependent upon business needs and supervisor approval. The assigned duty station can be at any of our L&I locations Statewide.

Serving as a technical safety resource for employers, business and labor organizations, and DOSH staff, you’ll:
Driving is an essential function of this position. The incumbent is required to travel between worksites to perform assigned duties and must operate a state-issued vehicle, a motor pool vehicle, or personally owned vehicle (POV), as appropriate. Use of a POV will be reimbursed at the current state mileage reimbursement rate.
Must be able to safely navigate a variety of work environments, including large manufacturing facilities with metal stairways, catwalks, ladders, and uneven terrain. Must also be able to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, using appropriate protective gear.
We’re looking for someone who can bring technical knowledge and people skills to the table. You’ll be successful in this role if you are:
Experience in a regulatory compliance environment and knowledge of safety and health regulations are highly desirable.
*College-level education will substitute, year for year, for up to four years of non-safety and health experience.
*Additional safety and health qualifying experience will substitute year for year, for education.
*Qualifying experience" is defined as experience [conducting independent WISHA or OSHA safety and health inspections in the workplace; or regulatory related inspections in the workplace, including construction, manufacturing and other industries; investigating accidents; and writing technical reports] as a Safety & Health Officer, Consultant, Inspector, or WISHA or OSHA inspection, or regulatory related experience.
