Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the mortgage operations team to meet timelines and quality targets.
  • Review and oversee underwriting of applications, including high-value or complex cases.
  • Oversee processing to ensure timely closings and accurate loan files.
  • Supervise closing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and smooth handoffs to the secondary market.
  • Perform prefund quality control and coordinate corrective actions.
  • conduct post-closing verifications and deliver loans to the secondary market within required timelines.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and lead internal/compliance audits and training.
  • Deliver exceptional member service and collaborate with marketing and member services teams.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs; report performance to senior management; use data analytics to drive decisions.
  • Maintain policies, procedures and controls; manage MERS registrations and reconciliations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leadership and Management:
  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of mortgage professionals, fostering a collaborative and high performance culture.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies and best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to review performance metrics, address challenges, and set goals.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between departments to streamline operations and improve customer service.
Underwriting Oversight:
  • Ensure thorough and accurate reviews of mortgage applications, adhering to policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Personally review and approve high value, complex, or exceptional mortgage applications.
  • Maintain and update underwriting guidelines and standards.
  • Develop risk management strategies to mitigate potential underwriting risks.
Processing Management:
  • Oversee the mortgage processing team to ensure efficient and accurate processing within established timelines.
  • Monitor the loan pipeline, ensuring timely progression from application to closing.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Resolve escalated processing issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
Closing Supervision:
  • Manage the closing team to ensure accurate, efficient, and compliant closing of mortgage loans.
  • Coordinate with external partners to facilitate smooth and timely closings.
  • Review and approve closing documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Address and resolve issues during the closing process.
Prefund Audit Oversight:
  • Perform prefunding quality control reviews to ensure loan files meet agency, investor, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify documentation, compliance, and underwriting deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions prior to closing.
Post-Close Supervision:
  • Conduct post-closing activities, verifying completeness and accuracy of loan packages.
  • Deliver loans to the secondary market within the lock period, ensuring timely mailing of necessary documents.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and implement necessary updates.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and reviews.
  • Develop and implement training programs on compliance requirements.
Customer Service:
  • Ensure exceptional customer service throughout the mortgage process.
  • Address and resolve escalated customer issues and complaints.
  • Implement customer feedback mechanisms to improve the customer experience.
  • Collaborate with marketing and member services teams to promote mortgage products.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the mortgage operations team.
  • Prepare and present regular performance reports to senior management.
  • Utilize data analytics to identify trends and make informed decisions.
  • Implement performance improvement plans for team members.
Quality Control:
  • Serve as the point of contact for all third party audits and contract audits.
  • Ensure compliance with HMDA guidelines and reporting requirements.
  • Conduct pre close data integrity checks and prepare reports of findings.
  • Facilitate and maintain relationships with vendors and partners.
  • Manage real estate policy reviews and ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure completion and submission of Freddie Mac Investor renewal certifications.
MERs Responsibilities
  • Manage MERS Registrations and Transfers and Paid in full loans.
  • Reconciliation and Audits.
  • Resolve MERs Exceptions.
  • Maintain Policies, procedures and controls.
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert for MERS requirements, system usage, and best practices.

QualificationsEducation/Certification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage operations, underwriting, processing, closing, and post-closing procedures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local mortgage regulations.
  • Deep understanding of agency guidelines (including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA) along with correspondent lending requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in loan purchasing, delivery, and pre-fund and post-closing procedures.
Experience Required
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in mortgage operations, with at least 3-5 years in a management role.
HARD/TECHNICAL SKills/Abilities
  • Proficiency in mortgage software and loan origination systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to utilize data analytics for decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement operational strategies and process improvements.
  • Knowledge of risk management and compliance auditing.
