Job summary

Latham & Watkins seeks a Knowledge Transformation Attorney to curate and optimize the firm's transactional precedents, playbooks, and practice knowledge for AI-powered systems. You will transform institutional legal knowledge into AI-ready assets under the Associate Director of Artificial Intelligence – Knowledge Transformation.

Location options include New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, or the Bay Area, with a hybrid to in-office presence.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge management, taxonomy development, and information architecture to structure complex legal content for AI consumption.
  • Strong understanding of transactional legal practice, including M&A, finance, and capital markets workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI systems concepts: retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, knowledge graphs, vector databases, and agentic AI.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; JD required; 5+ years in legal practice, knowledge management, or legal tech.

Responsibilities

  • Transform precedents, templates, and playbooks into AI-ready knowledge resources following roadmaps and priorities.
  • Build and maintain structured knowledge repositories (clause libraries, negotiation playbooks, market terms databases, brief banks).
  • Collaborate with Innovation Attorneys, Knowledge Management Lawyers, and AI teams to integrate knowledge into AI-driven workflows for drafting, due diligence, contract analysis, and research.
  • Identify high-value precedents and evolving market practice; align assets with real-world attorney needs.
  • Stay current with knowledge graphs, semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic AI for knowledge capture and optimization.
  • Protect and maintain highly sensitive, confidential information.

About the Role

The Knowledge Transformation Attorney is an integral part of Latham’s Technology & Information Services team. This role will be responsible for identifying, curating, structuring, and optimizing the firm’s transactional precedents, playbooks, and accumulated practice expertise for use in AI‑powered systems, while curating and transforming the firm’s institutional legal knowledge into AI‑ready assets, working under the direction of the Associate Director of Artificial Intelligence – Knowledge Transformation and applying AI tools to enhance productivity and quality of output. This role will be located in either our New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, or Bay Area offices. The role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in‑office presence.

Responsibilities
  • Executing the firm’s knowledge transformation strategy by converting transactional precedents, contract templates, and practice playbooks into structured, AI‑optimised knowledge resources in accordance with established roadmaps and priorities.
  • Building and maintaining structured knowledge repositories, including clause libraries, negotiation playbooks, market terms databases, brief banks, motion templates, litigation strategy guides, and practice‑specific guidance materials optimised for utilisation as AI context.
  • Working closely with Innovation Attorneys, Knowledge Management Lawyers, Legal Engineering teams, AI Services Attorneys, and technology colleagues to integrate knowledge assets into AI‑powered workflows for document drafting, due diligence, contract analysis, deal execution, legal research, brief drafting, and case strategy development.
  • Engaging with Innovation Attorneys, practice group lawyers, and stakeholders to identify high‑value precedents, capture evolving market practice, and ensure knowledge assets are aligned with real‑world practice needs and attorney expectations.
  • Staying current with advances in knowledge graphs, semantic search, retrieval‑augmented generation, agentic AI, and legal AI applications, identifying opportunities for enhanced knowledge capture and optimisation.
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains.
Qualifications
  • Possess working knowledge of knowledge management, taxonomy development, and information architecture, with the ability to structure complex legal content for effective AI consumption and retrieval.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of transactional legal practice, including M&A, finance, and capital markets workflows, with the ability to identify and curate high‑value precedents and practice knowledge.
  • Exhibit technical aptitude with AI systems and familiarity with concepts such as retrieval‑augmented generation, semantic search, knowledge graphs, vector databases, agentic AI systems, and context window optimisation.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferably in law, library science, information science, computer science, or a related field.
  • A Juris Doctor (JD).
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in legal practice, knowledge management, or legal technology.
  • Experience with legal precedents, templates, or playbooks, preferably.
  • Experience in transactional legal practice, preferably, with litigation experience also valued.

Pay Range

USD $220,000.00 - USD $250,000.00 /Yr.
