Job Summary: The Kitchen Staff at Helix Community Schools plays a crucial role in supporting the food service operations by assisting with food preparation, serving line setup, food serving, inventory tracking, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and cafeteria. This position requires a commitment to providing nutritious meals, excellent customer service, and ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Food Preparation:
• Assist in the preparation of ingredients, including washing, chopping, and measuring food items according to established recipes and menus.
• Follow food safety guidelines to ensure the quality and safety of all food items prepared.
• Support the kitchen team in cooking and assembling meals as directed by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager. - Serving Line Setup:
• Set up the serving line for meal service, ensuring that all food items are presented attractively and at the appropriate temperatures.
• Ensure that serving utensils and supplies are readily available and properly organized for efficient service. - Food Serving:
• Serve meals to students and staff in a friendly and efficient manner, ensuring portion sizes are appropriate and dietary needs are accommodated.
• Engage with students during meal service, promoting a positive dining experience and addressing any questions or concerns. - Customer Service:
• Provide exceptional customer service by greeting students and staff warmly, addressing inquiries, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere in the dining area.
• Listen to feedback from students and staff regarding meals and service, communicating any suggestions or concerns to the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager. - Inventory Tracking:
• Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies, reporting any shortages or discrepancies to the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
• Assist in receiving and storing food deliveries, ensuring that items are properly labeled and stored according to safety standards.
• Help maintain accurate records of food usage and inventory to support effective kitchen management. - Cleaning and Sanitation:
• Perform regular cleaning and sanitation duties in the kitchen, serving areas, and cafeteria to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment using appropriate cleaning methods and sanitizers.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, storage areas, and dining areas throughout the day. - Team Collaboration:
• Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge related to food service operations.
