  • Receive, unload, and store food and supply deliveries according to facility procedures.
  • Dispose of waste and recyclables per sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Follow infection control, food safety, and workplace safety policies at all times.
  • Maintain resident/patient safety awareness in secure or supervised settings.
  • Support dietary staff during meal preparation, service, and cleanup.

Position Summary
The Kitchen Attendant supports food service operations within a behavioral health facility by maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment, assisting with routine food preparation, and contributing to a safe and efficient service area for residents, patients, staff, and visitors. This role requires dependability, professionalism, attention to detail, and consistent adherence to food safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment according to sanitation standards.
  • Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, serving spaces, countertops, and workstations.
  • Sweep and mop floors and keep storage, dining, and kitchen areas clean and organized.
  • Assist with basic food preparation, such as washing, peeling, and portioning ingredients.
  • Receive, unload, and properly store food and supply deliveries in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Dispose of waste and recyclables according to sanitation, biohazard, and safety procedures, as applicable.
  • Follow infection control, food safety, and workplace safety policies at all times.
  • Maintain awareness of resident and patient safety considerations while working in secure or supervised environments.
  • Support dietary staff and kitchen team during meal preparation, service, and cleanup.
  • Report damaged equipment, hazards, incidents, or maintenance issues promptly to supervisors.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous kitchen, dietary, food service, or healthcare support experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and infection control practices.
  • Current food handler permit required, or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
