Job summary

The Kitchen Assistant/Van Driver position at Alabama Quassarte Tribal Town supports the Elderly Nutrition Center by delivering meals to seniors and assisting with meal preparation and serving for Congregate and Home Delivered meals programs.

Under supervision, you will drive tribal vehicles, maintain route logs, and help ensure a clean, safe dining and food service environment while assisting staff during holidays or shortages.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and be at least 18 years old.
  • Previous food service experience is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate good customer relations, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work well with elders and have positive human interaction skills.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver meals to individuals’ homes on assigned route following program procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of tribal vehicles and report issues.
  • Ensure cleanliness and efficiency of preparation and serving area.
  • Assist with food preparation duties and in preparing trays and deliveries.
  • Assist in serving congregate meals and clean kitchen areas.
  • Carry out duties as required by cook or management.
  • Support smooth dining room operations, especially during staff shortages.

Kitchen Assistant/Van Driver JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Title VI Director and Head Cook, the Kitchen Assistant/Driver is responsible for

providing meal delivery services to Seniors and assisting the Head Cook and Cook Aide in preparing and/or serving food and beverages in support of the Congregate and Home Delivered meals programs offered through the Elderly Nutrition Center.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position works under the direct supervision of the Title VI Director and Head Cook.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Deliver meals to individuals’ homes on assigned route in accordance with program procedures.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of tribal vehicles, report all issues immediately to director.
  • Ensure cleanliness and efficiency of the preparation and serving area.
  • Assist with food preparation duties.
  • Assist in preparing food trays and delivery of meals.
  • Assist in serving the congregate meal.
  • Clean food preparation, dishes, pots, and pans.
  • Carryout special duties as required by the cook or management.
  • Always assist in the smooth running of the dining room, especially in times of staff shortage and holidays.
  • Ordering inventory/supplies, maintaining temperature control/logs, etc.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED and be at least 18 years of age.

Conditions Of Employment

Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable. Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and be willing to submit to a criminal background check. Obtain and maintain current CPR/First Aid Certification. Obtain and maintain current Food Handler’s Permit. This position may work outside the normal workweek.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. May require standing for more than one hour, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting, lifting, reaching above your head, good range of motion in neck, good manual dexterity and coordination, stair climbing, and climbing in and out of a vehicle. Lift and transport up to fifty (50) pounds of food and packaged materials. See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read traffic signs, computer screens and printed documents. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment but will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high temperatures, and other outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate.
