Kitchen Assistant
Department: Back of House – Kitchen
Reports To: Kitchen Manager and Restaurant General Manager; Lead Cook when necessary
Position Status: Internship
Pay Bracket: Paid and/or School Credit
About The Position
Working beside experienced cooks, the Kitchen Assistant is an integral member of our kitchen team and will gain hands‑on experience in food production within a busy, full‑sized dining restaurant. The Kitchen Assistant will learn kitchen necessities, food safety and handling, pantry preparation, knife handling, and day‑to‑day operations. Time is split between prep area work and line work.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Adhere to health department guidelines for food safety handling (proper temperature control, rotation, sanitation, hand washing, hair nets, non‑skid shoes, etc.).
- Prepare a variety of grill items (eggs, pancakes, waffles, French toast, proteins, vegetables) for cooking on grills, fryers, stovetop, and cold stations.
- Understand and comply with guidelines for recipe and portion sizes, cooking methods, and quality plating goals.
- Rotate, stock, and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation during the shift (floors, cutting boards, sinks, trash, tables, grills, fryers, etc.).
- Complete sanitation checks on the hour for all stations.
- Close the kitchen following the end‑of‑shift checklist and assist teammates with end‑of‑shift responsibilities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Experience in kitchen preparation and cooking a plus but not required.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
Professional Requirements:
- Passion in culinary.
- Pleasant, polite manner and neat and clean appearance.
- Ability to handle pressure and multitask.
- Effective communication in kitchen setting ensuring safety and food quality standards are met.
Working Conditions:
- Hours vary based on team member’s status.
- Weekend availability required.
- Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting supplies up to 45 lbs, and repetitive hand and wrist motion.
- Work with hot, cold, and various kitchen equipment.
- Work with a safe and sanitary mindset when handling food and sharp objects.
