Job summary

Brattleboro Food Co-op is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to help maintain a clean work area and assist with food preparation. You will support meal service, events, and daily cleaning, while upholding safety and sanitation standards in a fast-paced environment.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Training will cover product knowledge and customer service as part of daily duties in our cooperative setting.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety and sanitation standards.
• Assist in receiving and stocking of supplies.
• Daily dishwashing, mopping, sweeping, and other cleaning tasks.
• Assist in food preparation as needed.
• Assist as directed in facilitating meal service, and event set up and breakdown as needed.
• Removal of recycling/compost/garbage to designated areas.
• Accurately inputting shrink data as needed.
• Maintaining clean and orderly work stations.
• Adhering to the site code of conduct as defined during training.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Purpose: The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean work environment and assisting with general food preparation.
• Status: Reports to Food Services Director
• Customer Service:
• Assists customers with questions in a prompt and courteous manner
• Provide attentive and courteous customer service
• Maintain a polite, friendly and helpful attitude towards internal and external customers
• Product Knowledge:
• Knowledgeable about all products. Continues to learn about new products. Answers questions accurately
• Product Presentation and Quality:
• Ensure quality food preparation, presentation and execution
• Safety:
• Handles all equipment in a safe manner
• Alert to unsafe equipment and removes any equipment that is unsafe from usage
• Teamwork:
• Ensures department teamwork through trust and communication
• Accountability:
• Accepts responsibility for personal decisions and actions. Exemplifies honesty, integrity and ethics
• Contributes constructively to the morale of the department
• Shows initiative in solving issues and achieving the departmental goals
