Job summary

HANAC, Inc. on College Point, NY, is seeking a Kitchen Aide to assist in all aspects of food preparation, service, and kitchen cleanup. The role supports daily meal service and prep for the next day, with a focus on sanitation.

The position is part-time (25 hours per week) with a Monday–Friday schedule, and an hourly rate around $20.72. GED or high school diploma is required, and physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds is expected.

Qualifications

• GED or High School Diploma.
• Must understand directions in food preparation, storage, and cleanup, to comply with NYC DOH sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

• Morning set-up includes coffee service, steam table replace water, and start.
• Unpack and store morning deliveries.
• Move from storage to prep to service area all foods, and paper products required for the day.
• Prepare the meal service area – serving pieces, dishes.
• Assist with food service.
• Clean kitchen, serving area, pots, pans, steam trays, tables, stove, shelves, work surfaces, utensils, and dining room in preparation for the next day.
• Assist in prepping food required for the next day's menu.
• Assist with inventory and organizing storerooms.
• May substitute for cook’s helper, dining room aide, as requested.
• Assist in any additional service required by special events and parties.
• Perform other tasks as requested and assigned by the Assistant Cook.
• Maintain adherence to all sanitation standards.
• Attend all training as required.

HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.

The Kitchen Aide will be involved in all aspects of food preparation and service and with cleanup of the kitchen and service area, dining room, and storage areas.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an intermittent basis and 30 pounds on a regular basis, and bend, squat, kneel, stretch hands overhead, lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds on a regular basis
