Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools in North Carolina seeks a full-time Teacher dedicated to helping students learn core subjects and social development. The role reports to the Principal and requires a NC teaching certificate and a bachelor’s degree in education.

The teacher will plan a standards-aligned program, create a positive classroom environment, assess progress, communicate with families, and participate in school initiatives while following district policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Follow district rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and aligns with school, district, and state guidelines.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
• Guide learning to achieve curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, etc.
• Employ instructional methods and materials that meet objectives.
• Assess student progress and provide progress reports as required.
• Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents regularly.
• Assist administration in implementing policies and maintaining classroom order and appropriate rules.
• Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and evaluate their performance.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence and support the school vision.
• Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and carry out duties as assigned.
• Perform related duties as required by the Principal.

TITLE: Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in education with a valid teaching certificate in North Carolina.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Follow all rules, policies, and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
• Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and is compatible with the school, district, and state guidelines.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
• Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
• Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
• Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and evaluate their job performance.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Participate in the development and support of the broad school vision.
• Attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees, and carry out noninstructional duties as required or assigned.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required by the Principal.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month employment/FLSA Exempt

Starting Salary and/or Grade: Salary based on state salary scale

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board, local and state policy on evaluation of teachers.
