Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred
• Must meet ISBE licensure requirements for student interaction
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and the public
• Uses/operates computer or digitized equipment related to the position/job
• Demonstrates proficient use of the English language in written and oral forms
• Able to demonstrate patience and gain student cooperation
• Able to assist in the implementation of an instructional program and monitor student behavior

Responsibilities

• Provide individual help and assistance to students as requested
• Assist in providing individualized and/or small group instruction and supervision for all students
• Reinforce learning objectives to small groups of students or individuals
• Assist the teacher with class instruction; work with small groups and provide one-on-one instruction
• Assist with activities and instructional methods (songs, stories, media, structured games, art, outdoor activities) to motivate students
• Collect and organize teaching materials for the classroom teacher as needed
• Assist in preparing the classroom for opening of school and storing materials for closing
• Help maintain classroom order; monitor students to keep them on task
• Assist in creating a learning environment conducive to student maturity and interests
• Monitor and supervise students during field trips and school events
• Escort children leaving the classroom
• Maintain classroom supplies and help students retrieve materials
• Supervise recess, lunch, and bus supervision and enforce behavior expectations
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor
