Job Description
Under the direction of the classroom teacher, performs a variety of basic non‑instructional duties for kindergarten students, including working with individuals or small groups, assisting with classroom organization and administrative tasks, monitoring classrooms and hallways, preparing materials, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment, enforce school safety rules and regulations, greet students, and help them with routine procedures such as opening lockers, arriving activities, and breakfast.
- Monitor students during bathroom breaks and assist with toileting and self‑care procedures.
- Assist the kindergarten teacher with administrative tasks such as lunch counts, attendance, and checking backpacks and folders.
- Maintain discipline and encourage appropriate behavior, monitoring student conduct in halls, cafeterias, and other assembly areas.
- Facilitate on‑task behavior by providing reinforcement and refocusing prompts, and redirect students who need assistance focusing.
- Assist with material distribution, arrange center tables for activities, and sit with students during instructional segments.
- Set up materials for lessons and record student responses on teacher‑created data sheets, offering non‑instructional support as needed.
- Facilitate students at centers and during snack time, encouraging self‑help skills.
- Reinforce skills directed by the teacher, facilitate oral language development and social skills at centers, and read to students while discussing stories.
- Facilitate movement within the classroom and school, guide play during gross‑motor periods, and accompany students on curricular field trips.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Experience working with an early childhood population is preferred.

- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to provide assistance and support services to students.
- Ability to follow and enforce safety and disciplinary rules.
- Ability to foster effective working relationships with students, teachers, and other school personnel.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
- Engagement in frequent walking, standing, lifting, and carrying, in addition to other physical duties associated with assisting early childhood students.
FLSA Status: Non‑exempt
Salary: $18 per hour
