Qualifications

• YMCA New Employee Orientation completed within the onboarding period.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:Under the supervision of the Youth Development Director this position provides direct supervision of a group of children in the YMCA’s afterschool program. This position is for qualified applicants ages 18 years of age and older. This position provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Applications will be taken until July 31st. Interviews to be held on August 8th. The first day of work will be August 12th for training at 5:30PM.Essential Functions:Supervises a group of children each day as assigned by the Youth Development Director.Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.Attends staff meetings, trainings and wears the required YMCA apparel while on duty.Punches the time clock as close to 3:00pm as possible and is ready for a quick staff briefing at 3:10 every day.Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.Maintains positive communication with parents and other staff.Adhere to the state of South Dakota licensing requirements, including but not limited to, a 1:15 minimum ratio of staff to students.Be engaged directly with their small group, but also engaged during large group times like check-in/check-out, guest speakers and other large group activities.Represent the YMCA in a positive manner on field trips and other interaction with community members you may visit the YMCA programs.Follow the outlined curriculum as planned for each day, but also be prepared to adapt and change activities when necessary.Qualifications:Previous experience working with school-age children preferred.YMCA New Employee Orientation, CPR, First Aid, AED and Kids Stop Training within 30 days of hire date.Physical Demands:Ability to lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
