Job summary

EPAM Systems seeks a Key Java AI Engineer to design and deliver AI-enabled solutions using Java technologies. You will lead AI-powered features across the AI Software Development Life Cycle, from design through deployment and continuous improvement.

Work remotely from Georgia with opportunities to collaborate across global offices and cutting-edge AI projects. Candidates should have 3+ years in data engineering or backend development and strong Java/Scala skills, plus Spark and Kafka experience.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of data engineering or backend development experience.
• Proven AI SDLC implementation experience.
• Proficiency in Java/Scala as primary languages with Python as secondary.
• Familiarity with Spark, Kafka, SQL and data modeling.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Azure.

Job description

We are seeking a Key Java AI Engineer to design and deliver AI-enabled solutions using Java technologies. In this role, you will lead the implementation of business-critical, AI-powered features while contributing across the entire AI Software Development Life Cycle, from solution design through deployment and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy AI-enabled solutions using Java technologies
• Lead the implementation of business-critical features powered by AI
• Contribute to all phases of the AI Software Development Life Cycle, including solution design, prompt engineering, model integration, evaluation, monitoring, deployment and continuous improvement
• Stay updated on the latest trends in Java and AI technologies

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in data engineering or backend platform development
• Proven experience implementing the AI Software Development Life Cycle
• Qualifications in solution design, prompt engineering and model integration
• Familiarity with evaluation, monitoring, deployment and continuous improvement of AI solutions
• Proficiency in Java and/or Scala as primary languages with Python as secondary
• Expertise in Apache Spark, including Spark SQL and Spark Streaming
• Knowledge of Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures
• Competency in SQL and data modeling
• Skills in AWS cloud services and serverless computing
• English proficiency at B2 level or higher

Nice to have

• Flexibility to use Terraform for Infrastructure as Code
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes (EKS / AKS) and CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI or Jenkins
• Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Amazon Redshift
• Understanding of Microsoft Azure services and Azure-native tooling
• Knowledge of Iceberg, Hudi or Delta Lake
• Familiarity with Generative AI Fundamentals, Gen AI Assisted Development and GitHub Copilot
