Position Summary:

The Key Holder is responsible for opening and closing a store and performing other administrative duties in a retail setting. Their main duties include assisting customers when needed, making sure the store is organized, neat and tidy, and ensuring the alarm system is working properly.

Job Functions:

  1. Ensure company/store policies and procedures are communicated in a timely manner and adhered to accordingly
  2. Partner with store management to coach all store staff on inventory management best practices as they apply to each person’s job duties
  3. Partner with store management to help train employees to maintain and update plan-o-grams throughout the store
  4. Execute the daily operational goals and priorities assigned by store management
  5. Assist in the training and development of peers
  6. Open and close registers
  7. Responsible for counting money and making bank deposits while manager on duty
  8. Protect company assets by following all loss prevention procedures; train staff on the same
  9. Maintain an open and positive relationship with the store management team
  10. Address all safety concerns immediately
  11. Report all incidents and accidents immediately and complete the online report form
  12. Update store management team about the progress of the store and staff regularly
  13. Actively participate in daily huddle meetings
  14. Ensure all receiving is completed in compliance with company procedures to maintain an accurate inventory
  15. Review daily W.E.A.D. (Walk Every Aisle Daily), appearance of in-store and window displays and end caps, and oversee necessary changes to improve overall presentation
  16. Monitor all store transfers and expedite all outstanding transfers
  17. Responsible for opening and closing the store and securing all store assets
  18. Process damaged and defective goods in a timely and accurate manner
  19. Be a positive, consistent, and respectful role model; communicate positively regarding store management and company strategies; develop and support a positive attitude toward Costello’s Ace Hardware
  20. Use the E.C.E.T. (Every Customer, Every Time) process with EVERY customer interaction
  21. Be “customer ready” whenever you are on the stage/sales floor
  22. Recommend related items when appropriate and execute the S.A.L.E.S. process
  23. Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements
  24. Uphold merchandising and store cleanliness standards
  25. Participate in the processing of new shipments and help the team to keep the receiving and back stock area clean and organized
  26. Know the proper way to answer the telephone
  27. Be alert for possible merchandise losses. Protect all company assets and report any missing or damaged merchandise to your supervisor
  28. Advise store management of any pricing errors
  29. Be proficient at executing all store services, such as mixing paint, cutting glass, pipe, screen repair, and keys
  30. Ensure all shipments are packed out in their proper home and all overstock is put away
  31. Follow and enforce all policies in the company handbook
  32. Complete other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  1. Walking: Frequent - Flat surfaces from point to point
  2. Standing: Constant - All work performed on feet
  3. Sitting: None
  4. Stooping: Frequent - To pick up cartons at floor level
  5. Reaching: Frequent - To a height of 6 feet
  6. Lifting: Frequent - Up to 60 lbs., up to 500 repetitions per hour to a height of 4 feet (top of register); must be able to lift up to 25 pounds comfortably
  7. Hand Dexterity: Frequent - Must be able to use at least one hand to operate register and complete paperwork.
  8. Pushing/Pulling: Frequent - Move hand jacks from place to place
  9. Carrying: Frequent - Up to 50 lbs., up to 10 feet, occasionally more
  10. Climbing: Infrequent - Stairs in storage rooms, ladders
  11. Vision: Constant - Read labels, recognize boxes, safety in working
  12. Hearing: Constant - Safety signals
