Job description

You may know The Salvation Army for our red kettles, our angel trees, and our strong presence during the Christmas season, but we support local families every season. The donations we collect during the Christmas season not only help us provide gifts to children who would otherwise go without but also help us provide food, shelter, and utility assistance to those who need it most. Every dollar dropped into a red kettle helps give local families the Christmases they deserve and the yearlong support they so desperately need.

The Kettle Coordinator of La Crosse, WI will oversee and supervise the entire Kettle Campaign for the La Crosse Corps.

This position requires someone who can handle people in a professional and polite manner. All workers are considered representatives of the Salvation Army and should show care and confidence in the work. The kettle coordinator needs to be able to work under pressure, with varying schedule and without much direct supervision.

About the role:
  • Organize bell ringers and driver's schedules to optimize effectiveness
  • Maintain records of hours worked by all bell ringers
  • Drive workers to and from kettle locations as needed
  • Follow up with volunteers to allow them to assist according to their ability as coordinated by the volunteer coordinator
  • Assist in the hiring of bell ringers throughout the kettle season
  • Check on paid workers and volunteers during the workday, thanking volunteers for their service
  • Set up kettles to go out for the day if on the day of shift, and coordinate drivers to pick up kettles on the evening shift. This includes the organizations and tracking of vehicle keys.
  • Help groups and workers to receive necessary bell ringing equipment
  • Address needs or problems that might come from paid workers, volunteers, groups, kettle locations or equipment
  • Bring lunches to the paid ringers, reinforcing break times. Make sure they also fill out their time sheets correctly
  • Assist in the counting and deposit of money when asked
  • Enter data into computerized Christmas spreadsheets
  • Make helpful notes at the end of shift for the other kettle coordinators
  • Disinfect equipment as directed
  • Assist Development Director, Volunteer Coordinator, or Corp Officers in any other kettle duties

Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old; licensed driver with a good driving record; previous kettle work preferred, but not required. Also, they must have some computer skills.

Certifications: A valid driver's license with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier preferred.

Experience: Experience in driving in and around La Crosse County roads, and in working with others is desired.

The Salvation Army is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates who are back-to-work, US Veterans, people with disabilities, people who have been impacted by the justice system, and/or people without a college degree are encouraged to apply.
