Job description

BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital is seeking a dedicated Kennel Assistant to join their team in the surgery department!

This position is for our North Hills, Pittsburgh location.

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through the existing leveling system.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked during nights and weekends.

*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $4.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.00 Shift Differential

A Kennel Assistant attends to the basic needs of animals that are patients of the hospital and cleans the hospital facility, equipment, and tools. The role may include assistance with basic patient care such as the safe restraint of patients during treatment.

As a Kennel Assistant, you will:

• Observe patients for signs of health concerns and report findings to senior staff.
• Clean and disinfect hospital areas regularly to maintain high standards of care.
• Prepare patient meals, clean cages and bedding, and maintain litter boxes.
• Safely approach and restrain cooperative patients during treatments.

• Provide routine care, including walking dogs.
• Maintain hospital equipment and tools.
• Report patient voids to senior staff.
• Manage laundry and keep supplies stocked.
• Ensure cleanliness through regular patrols.
