Overview

Position: Special Education Teacher – Full Time
Location: Bruce Guadalupe Preschool, Milwaukee, WI 53204

Education Level: 4 Year Degree. Licensure: Wisconsin DPI teacher licensure with Early Childhood Special Education (1809) or Cross-Categorical Special Education License (1801).

Responsibilities

• Support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities by creating individualized learning plans and collaborating with general education teachers and families.
• Ensure compliance with all special education laws and guidelines and provide direct educational services according to each student’s IEP.
• Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction, assess student learning, manage classroom behavior, and build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with families, school staff, and other service providers using evidence-based strategies and accommodations.
• Modify and adapt general education curriculum to meet diverse learner needs and provide curricular and behavioral support for students with IEPs.
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of content and pedagogy and plan effective lessons that accommodate different learning styles.
• Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance classroom learning experiences.
• Assess student progress regularly and use data to inform planning, groupings, and future instruction.
• Communicate with families about student progress, goals, and outcomes; participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings as appropriate.
• Collaborate with special education staff, pupil services staff, administrators, and support staff to provide inclusive and individualized support.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and behavior, and prepare progress reports and other required documentation in a timely manner.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that supports student engagement and learning.
• Engage in ongoing professional development, participate in staff meetings and school initiatives, and uphold professional standards and ethics.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move around the classroom and school environment (standing, walking, stairs, bending, kneeling).
• Visual and auditory acuity to supervise students and respond to classroom needs.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist with classroom materials and student transitions.
• Manual dexterity for computer use and teaching tools; extended screen time may be required.
