Job Description

Title: K3 Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver—Highly Qualified Requirement

School Year: 2026-2027

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Highly Qualified Status from one of the following: (1) 2 or 4‑year degree, (2) 48 semester hours completed, (3) Pathways to TA Class completed with accompanying WorkKeys Test.
  • Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
  • Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Assistance
  • Give group instruction as prescribed by teacher; provide individualized instruction.
  • Demonstrate various instructional activities.
  • Check and correct students' work while in progress; keep students on task.
  • Praise and reinforce achievement of students.
  • Report student progress to teacher.
Instructional Preparation / Support
  • Arrange classroom furnishings and equipment; prepare visual aids and duplicate materials.
  • Reorganize materials at the end of the day.
  • Serve as proctor during testing; score students' papers as instructed by teacher; distribute and collect instructional materials.
  • Attend workshops.
Report and Records
  • Check and report attendance.
  • Enter data in health record, record student behavior and file data according to regulatory requirements.
Monitoring Student Behavior
  • Supervise students in the classroom and other locations (hallway, playground, etc.).
  • Create and distribute awards for positive behavior.
  • Promote student self‑esteem; teach citizenship, social skills and respect for others.
  • Reconcile minor student conflicts.
  • Participate in development of discipline and policy.
  • Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods.
  • Report discipline problems to teacher or principal.
  • Report significant change or lack of change in student behavior.
  • Serve as team player and role model for other employees; demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement; support and exhibit organization core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer‑driven and valuing diversity.
Duty to Drive a Bus / Sub Bus Driver / Bus Monitor / Sub Bus Monitor
  • Serve as a bus driver, sub bus driver, bus monitor or sub bus monitor for a school bus or activity bus as required by principal. Must have all qualifications prescribed by the State Board of Education and maintain appropriate bus driver certification at all times.
  • Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff and community leaders.
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing and repetitive motion.
