Job summary

ASU Preparatory Academy (ASU Prep) seeks an instructional assistant for immersion settings in the United States. The role supports classroom teachers by working with small groups, guiding students, and reinforcing taught skills.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with a college credit pathway, or equivalent, plus an active DPS fingerprint clearance card. Regular attendance is essential and prior group supervision is preferred.

• Passing ADE approved assessments or equivalent
• Active DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Experience supervising groups of children preferred
• Regular and predictable attendance essential
• Any equivalent combination of experience/education

Responsibilities

• Works with small groups.
• Directs small groups of children under the supervision of the teacher.
• Assists children in understanding and following directions.
• Encourages children to work independently.
• Reinforces skills taught by the classroom teacher to groups.
• Helps children individually.
• Supervises children during lunch and on the playground.
• Assists with routine tasks such as attendance and classroom prep.
• Prepares instructional materials and resources.
• Additional duties may be assigned.

Job description

Salary Range: $15.50 - $21.50 USD hourly.

QUALIFICATIONS.

• High School Diploma/GED AND an Associate's Degree or higher OR
• Successful completion of 60 semester hours of college credit OR
• Obtain a passing score on one of the ADE approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment (Praxis), ACT Workkeys, Master Teacher's ParaEducator PD Now!
• Active Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) issued IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Previous experience successfully supervising and assisting groups of children, highly preferred.
• Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

• Works with small groups.
• Directs small groups of children under the supervision of the teacher.
• Assists children in understanding and following directions.
• Encourages children to work independently.
• Reinforces skills taught by the classroom teacher to small and large groups.
• Helps children individually.
• Supervises children during lunch, on the playground, etc.
• Assists classroom teacher with general cleanup and preparation.
• Assists teachers with routine tasks such as:
• Recording attendance and other information
• Preparing the classroom for instruction
• Gathering resources and supplementary materials
• Prepares Instructional materials.
• Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES.

• Demonstrated excellent reading, writing, computation and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform routine clerical tasks in support of classroom activities.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
