Job summary

Great Hearts Academies is seeking an Assistant Teacher/Apprentice Teacher for its K-5 programs at the Veritas campus in Phoenix, AZ. The role supports the lead teacher in delivering a Core Knowledge curriculum and provides mentorship in a classical, liberal arts environment.

Roles include working under a Master Teacher to learn the craft of teaching, with many ATs eventually advancing to lead teacher roles once a bachelor’s degree is obtained. Local travel for training may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
• US work authorization is required, OPT/CPT candidates accepted.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance.
• Travel may be required locally for training and professional development opportunities.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Teaching Assistant and Apprentice Teacher rolesat Great Hearts:

• As a K-5 Teaching Assistant, you support the lead teacher in the implementation of a rich Core Knowledge curriculum. A bachelor’s degree is notrequiredfor this role.

• As an Apprentice Teacher, you function as a second teacher in the classroom, without shouldering the burden of all planning, grading/evaluation, parent communications

• Through mentorship with a Master Teacher, you learn the craft of teaching in a classical, liberal arts primary-school environment.

• Many of our ATs become lead teachers at either lower or upper schools (assuming a bachelor’s degree)

Required/Preferred Education:

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
• Some locations (e.g. Title I schools) may require assistant teachers to have an AA, 60 hours of college credit, or be able to pass a ParaPro proficiency exam before beginning work.

US work authorization isrequired, but we do accept OPT/CPT candidates.
