Job summary

Pleasant Valley is seeking a Primary School Music Teacher to deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The role emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and positive behavior supports within a safe and inclusive classroom.

The teacher will plan lessons for diverse learners, assess progress, and prepare students for performances while partnering with families and staff to support academic and social-emotional growth.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Illinois PEL with Music endorsement.
• Positive attitude toward meeting the needs of all students.
• Strong classroom management with positive behavior supports.
• Ability to organize and safely manage large groups in active classrooms.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Demonstrates flexibility, initiative, creativity, and strong communication skills.
• Organized and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse academic, behavioral, developmental, and social-emotional needs.
• Demonstrates consistent attendance, reliability, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, standards-aligned music instruction for Kindergarten through 3rd grade.
• Foster student creativity, self-expression, teamwork, and confidence.
• Plan lessons meeting diverse learners and developmental levels.
• Differentiate instruction for IEPs, 504 plans, and behavioral needs.
• Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Communicate regularly with families, administration, and staff about progress.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administration to support student growth.
• Prepare students for performances, assemblies, or school events.
