Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States seeks a literacy support specialist to assist K-3 students in small groups, collaborating with the Literacy Specialist to develop targeted support models. Qualifications

  • Knowledge of literacy, school board policies and procedures, and In-School Suspension (ISS) regulations and practices
  • Ability to tutor and supervise students, particularly in a disciplinary setting
  • Ability to effectively handle sensitive and challenging situations involving students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, and staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and assume responsibility without direct supervision
  • Ability to prioritize work and follow oral and written instructions
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or Valid Virginia Teaching License
  • Successful completion of FBI Criminal History Investigation
  • Successful completion of State Police Criminal History Investigation
  • Successful completion of Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
  • Successful completion of Tuberculosis Screening/Test
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods; use a telephone and computer terminal; see/read screens and printed material; hear and speak clearly
  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 lbs., bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct literacy support for students in Grades K-3 in a small group setting
  • Collaborates with Literacy Specialist or designee to develop support models for students
  • Supports differentiation strategies in reading, writing, and spelling
  • Provides feedback on student progress to Literacy Specialist or designee
  • Teaches explicit skills to improve literacy outcomes
  • Provides students positive and constructive feedback
  • Prepares various reports related to literacy and student progress, as requested
  • Uses standard office equipment and education-related equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned
