Job summary

The New School seeks substitutes for K-12 for the 2022-23 school year. This part-time role supports assigned classrooms in the absence of the regular teacher.

Substitute teachers follow lesson plans, maintain routines, and provide a productive learning environment. A high school diploma is required; college experience preferred; CPR certification is a plus. Strong communication and organization are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college experience or degree preferred.
• One-year classroom experience preferred.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Attend a one‑time substitute orientation.
• Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
• Follow the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher.
• Interact in a professional manner with colleagues, students and parents.
• Encourage, monitor, and promote student progress.
• Maintain student confidentiality.
• Oversee student behavior in the classroom, during lunch and activity periods, and in all school settings.
• Provide a brief report in writing on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each day for the teacher.
• Work cooperatively with all school personnel.
• Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
• Other duties as assigned.
