Responsibilities

  • Instructs athletes in fundamental skills and training to achieve team success and promote the Pursuing Victory with Honor program
  • Maintains a safe, supervised environment and follows policies
  • Serves as the primary coach for junior varsity wrestlers during practices, competitions, and team activities
  • Helps develop season plans, practice plans, and athlete development pathways
  • Provides technical instruction in wrestling fundamentals, strategy, sportsmanship and safe training
  • Evaluates athlete performance and assists in lineup decisions
  • Maintains records of match results, attendance and progress
  • Assists with practice and competition venue safety and equipment maintenance
  • Assists with tournament registration, roster management and weigh-ins
  • Demonstrates proficiency with wrestling management platforms (TrackWrestling, FloWrestling)
  • Coordinates and supervises student-athletes in all wrestling activities and communicates with faculty/parents
  • Supports engagement and retention for boys' and girls' wrestling

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE :

Under the direction of the Principal, Athletic Director, and Head Wrestling Coach, and in accordance with the policies and expectations of Notre Dame Prep, the JV HeadWrestlingCoach coordinates and supervises the junior varsitywrestlingprogram. The coach is responsible for the instruction, development, supervision, and competitive preparation of JV student-athletes while supporting the overall mission and objectives of the Notre Dame PreparatoryWrestlingProgram. The JV Head Coach works collaboratively with the Head Coach and coaching staff to ensure consistency in technique, culture, athlete development, and program expectations.

The coach contributes to fostering the Catholic School culture by serving as a witness to students and to the community. By bearing witness to Christ, His Church and the teachings of our Catholic faith, the coach cooperates with Christ in the academic, spiritual, and social education of our high school students. Obtains necessary certificates; participates in continual professional development; maintains detailed and accurate records as required by the school. Serves as a positive role model and mentor to student-athletes and supports the spiritual, academic, and personal development of students in accordance with the mission of the school.

This position requires the ability to effectively communicate via phone and email; ensure that all duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner; flexibility, forward thinking and managing deadlines; willingness to seek the latest coaching practices and implement them; and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity, initiative, leadership, and latitude are expected.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Instructs athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and training necessary to achieve individual and team success while promoting the Pursuing Victory with Honor Program as well as maintaining discipline, addressing student-athlete concerns, and working to increase morale and cooperation.
  • Maintains a safe, supportive, and appropriately supervised environment for student-athletes and follows all school, Diocesan, AIA and applicable policies regarding student supervision, safety, conduct, and communication.
  • Serves as the primary coach for junior varsity wrestlers during practices, competitions, and team activities.
  • Assists in developing season plans, practice plans, and athlete development pathways aligned with the overall program philosophy.
  • Provides technical instruction inwrestlingfundamentals, strategy, sportsmanship, and safe training practices.
  • Evaluates athlete performance and assists in determining lineup recommendations and developmental goals.
  • Maintains accurate records of match results, attendance, and athlete progress.
  • Assists in the overall functioning of thewrestling
  • Assists the Head Coach in assuring that practice and competition venues are safe and all equipment is within regulation, safe, properly maintained, and inventoried.
  • Assists with tournament registration, roster management, weigh-in procedures, and event administration.
  • Demonstrates or develops proficiency in wrestling management and technology platforms, including TrackWrestling and FloWrestling platforms for tournament management, results tracking, athlete statistics, rankings, video review, and match analysis.
  • Assists in the coordination and supervision of student-athletes in allwrestlingprogram activities, including practice areas, locker rooms, competitions, travel, camps, and other venues used by the sport.
  • Maintains appropriate and open communication with faculty, staff, and parents regarding thewrestlingprogram; helps advise student-athletes concerning academics in conjunction with appropriate faculty and staff; supports student-athlete development and assists the Head Coach with college recruiting efforts when appropriate.
  • Supports engagement and retention efforts for both boys' and girls'wrestling
  • Promotes the culture, values, and expectations of the Notre Dame PreparatoryWrestling
  • Performs other job-related tasks deemed necessary or as requested by the Principal, Athletic Director, or HeadWrestling

EVALUATION

The performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures developed by the Diocese of Phoenix and Notre Dame Preparatory under the direction of the Principal and Athletic Director.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a stipend position based on the season of the sport coached. The Leadership Team under the guidance of the Diocese of Phoenix establishes base salaries and stipends. A schedule of mandatory days and extra responsibilities is provided prior to the start of a new school year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Preference given to Catholic teacher
  • Certified by the Arizona State Department of Education or AIA as a coach and meets applicable NCA requirements.
  • Must meet Diocese of Phoenix requirements for employment
  • Received Safe Environment Training and signed the Code of Conduct
  • FBI Fingerprint clearance completed
  • Having a current Arizona State driver’s license is desirable.
