Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is seeking a Boys Volleyball Assistant Coach (JV) to support the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of the program. The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and student-athlete development.

The ideal candidate holds a valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate or ASEP/NFHS certification, with CPR/AED and concussion training, and is prepared to collaborate with staff, students, and families to maintain a competitive program.

Qualifications

Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) OR ASEP/NFHS Certification, as mandated by IHSA.
CPR and AED certification for all high school athletic coaches as per IHSA regulations.
Completion of IHSA concussion awareness training and related safety protocols.
Background check and fingerprinting clearance per Illinois School Code and IHSA eligibility requirements.
Completion of federal Title IX training to ensure compliance with anti-discrimination laws in athletics.
In-depth knowledge of the sport, including rules, techniques, and strategies.
Prior successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
Strong instructional skills in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and conditioning.
Commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable athletic program.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Head Coach to design and run skill-development drills, practice plans, and conditioning sessions.
Provide individualized feedback to student-athletes on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
Assist with game-day logistics, including equipment setup, venue preparation, warm-ups, and scorekeeping.
Maintain and inventory athletic equipment, coordinating repairs, storage, and issuance.
Monitor adherence to IHSA rules, district policies, CPR/AED readiness and concussion management.
Support athlete eligibility tracking and manage required documentation (physicals, academic clearances).
Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, escalating concerns as needed.
Participate in preseason meetings, team briefings, trainings, and postseason tasks like equipment returns.
