Linn County Juvenile Department seeks a Temporary Detention Worker I for the Linn-Benton Juvenile Detention Center. This on-call, part-time role involves intake, supervision, and group activities in a secure setting.
Must have a high school diploma or GED and be 21+. Pre-employment background checks and drug screen required; shift flexibility is needed. Position pays $22.00–$24.00 per hour with no benefits.
Perform intake duties, including pat/comprehensive searches, interviewing juveniles.
Visually/audibly supervise juveniles, provide extra supervision for juveniles with special needs.
Possess good computer skills, prepare paperwork, conduct releases & admissions to the facility.
Distribute meals, participate in groups.
Maintain a clean facility, complete minor maintenance, report issues, answer phones.
Model exemplary standards of conduct and increase youth skills through education, groups and role-model positive pro-social behavior.
Respond to emergency situations, interact to diffuse aggressive youth, Maintain safety and security.
Comply with department and county policies, procedures, ORS and regulations.
Must have a high school diploma or GED, must be 21 years old; AND any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education, skills and training to successfully complete necessary functions of the position. Previous work, education or training related to juvenile justice is preferred, but not a requirement for this position. Final candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment Criminal and DHS Background check as well as a pre-employment drug screen.

Must have the ability to learn how to supervise juveniles in a closed custody setting and maintain adequate degree of control in supervision of youth.
Teachable; Must be able to follow instructions/directives. Exercise good judgment.
Maintain punctual and regular attendance. Available for multiple shifts.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, Juvenile Department staff and other agencies.
Ability to communicate effectively and get along with multiple staff/youth with many different personalities.
Ability and willingness to teach and play sports/games with youth in closed custody.
Personable, demonstrate a positive attitude.
Willing and able to teach group curriculum.
Ability to clean and teach youth proper cleaning techniques.
Participates in/maintains CPR/First Aid certification, participates in training.
