Job summary

Allen County Juvenile Center is seeking a Detention Services Officer to maintain safety and security for detained juveniles and staff. Under the Shift Leader, you will perform daily supervision, health checks, and coordinate activities within a secure detention facility.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, supervisory skills, strong written/verbal communication, and the ability to use safety equipment. A valid driver’s license and physical fitness are essential for this position.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Supervisory skills needed to oversee juveniles and program activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software.
• Must be able to use restraints and safety equipment.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must be able to physically perform essential job functions.
• Driver's license required for transportation duties.

Responsibilities

• Supervises detained juveniles and those waived to the adult jurisdiction's residents' daily activities.
• Process new juveniles on entrance to the unit.
• Maintain safety by conducting searches and performing counts.
• Escort and supervise movement within the facility and coordinate meals, recreation, and health checks.
• Communicate with staff via radios, emails, phones, and logs; complete incident and discipline reports.
• Provide transportation supervision to the Transportation Officer and support Central Dispatch as needed.
• Attend trainings (CPR/First Aid/AED, PREA, etc.) and participate in required workshops.
• Oversee daily housekeeping in detention rooms and common areas.
• Respond to emergencies and support health and safety operations.
