Job summary

FM seeks a Jurisdictional Consultant to conduct in-service inspections of boilers and pressure vessels across Washington state, from Tacoma to the Oregon border. You will learn FM procedures and NBIC rules, with supervision by the Operations Chief Inspector.

Travel about 30% while developing technical, regulatory, and client-communication skills. The position offers a path to NBIC review, with education requirements including a BS in Engineering or equivalent; NB-263 qualifications are expected

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • National Board In-Service commission qualifications (RCI-1 NB-263).
  • National Board Commission and certification from at least one jurisdiction within 12 months.
  • Understanding boiler and pressure vessel construction, inspection, and nondestructive testing is beneficial.
  • Strong communication, writing, and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform jurisdictional inspections of boilers and pressure vessels within Washington from Tacoma to the Oregon border.
  • Inspect, evaluate, and confer with clients under NB and FM procedures; supervised by the Operations Chief Inspector.
  • Travel approximately 30% to inspection sites.
  • Develop the skills required to manage inspections, reviews, and repairs as needed.

Job description

This jurisdictional position is primarily responsible for conducting in-service jurisdictional inspections of boilers and pressure vessels in the state of Washington from Tacoma to the Oregon border. The ideal candidate would be located geographically in this territory.

Based on experience, candidates will be considered for Jurisdictional Consultant I and II.

Responsibilities

The Jurisdictional Consultant learns and develops the skills required to manage, inspect, evaluate, and confer with clients. These inspections are conducted within the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the Rules of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, The National Board Inspection Code, the state of Washington jurisdictional laws and regulations and also FM programs, procedures, and instructions. The Jurisdictional Consultant will be supervised by the Operations Chief Inspector.

The Jurisdictional Consultant will receive the necessary FM procedural and field training to be competent. In addition, this position performs inspections of varying scope from low, medium and high exposure locations and occupancies to eliminate or mitigate hazards.

Travel approximately 30%.

Qualifications
  • Education : Depending on an individual’s experience and other factors, the Jurisdictional Consultant will have a BS in Engineering, an Associate’s degree from a 2-year technical school, or a high school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Desired : An individual that already has a National Board commission and state certification(s), should qualify to review repairs in accordance with the NBIC and FM requirements.
  • Required : The position requires the individual to meet National Board In-Service commission qualification requirements Rules for Commissioned Inspectors (RCI-1 NB-263). Acquire a passing score on the National Board Exam and meet State requirements. The individual must acquire a National Board Commission and certification from at least one jurisdiction within 12 months of entering this position.
  • Experience: Understanding boiler and pressure vessel construction, operation, inspection, mechanical and electrical equipment, management systems and nondestructive testing methods and results are beneficial for the ideal candidate.
  • Skills/Knowledge: Strong overall technical knowledge in the boiler and pressure vessel construction and inspection industry, good communication and listening skills, writing skills, efficient time management and organization, problem-solving skills, basic computer application skills, ability to work independently as well as being an integral part of a team.
