Description

Team Fishel, the Best Choice for Utility Engineering and Construction, is hiring an experienced Survey Instrument Operator for our Surveying & Engineering division in Stafford, VA, who is ready to advance their career through fast‑paced, hands‑on training to become a Survey Party Chief.

Responsibilities

• Using GPS equipment to set control, perform property corner searches, topographic surveys, and staking of easements and rights‑of‑way
• Occasional use of a Total Station for the above tasks
• Maintain equipment and supplies
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license
• At least two years of experience using GPS equipment
• Field‑based work; ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to operate and train others in the use of survey equipment, including conventional and electronic instruments and related computer hardware/software
• Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift/transport equipment over uneven terrain
• Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
• Occasional overnight travel may be required
• Willingness to learn all aspects of surveying

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience utilizing GPS equipment
• At least two years of experience using conventional survey equipment
• Experience reading and interpreting plats and deeds of record
• Experience recording detailed field notes and performing basic in‑field calculations

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting pay $27–$28 per hour, depending on experience
