Position Summary

The Junior Staff Accountant supports the Finance team through accounts payable, purchasing and vendor administration, reconciliations, and general accounting activities. The position serves as the primary resource for assigned accounts payable and purchasing processes and is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, researching transaction discrepancies, supporting internal controls, and maintaining complete and auditable accounting documentation.

The Junior Staff Accountant reports directly to the Controller and works closely with the Staff Accountant and other Finance team members. The position assists with routine journal entries, balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals, fixed-asset support, month-end activities, and financial schedules, with appropriate review based on the complexity of the work.

This is a developmental accounting position designed for an individual who can independently manage assigned transactional responsibilities while progressively building broader general-ledger and financial-accounting skills. The role operates in a deadline-driven environment and requires strong accuracy, organization, follow-through, research skills, and sound judgment regarding when issues should be resolved independently versus escalated.

The employee will also be cross trained on selected Staff Accountant processes to provide Finance department continuity during planned or unplanned absences. Cross-training does not transfer primary ownership of the Staff Accountant function.

Staff Accountant Support: Provide backup support to the Staff Accountant when needed and assist with assigned accounting responsibilities while escalating complex accounting matters appropriately.

Financial Controls & Accuracy: Ensure transactions are properly coded, documented, authorized, and processed according to company policies and internal controls.

Cross-Functional Support: Work with Finance, Operations, department managers, and vendors to resolve financial, purchasing, invoice, and accounting questions and discrepancies.
