Job summary

Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of software test or related engineering experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of software test methods and verification.
  • Experience with Python, C, C++, or Java.
  • Ability to read requirements and produce test records.
  • Familiarity with version control and issue-tracking tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, teamwork, and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to obtain U.S. SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform functional, integration, regression, and system tests in lab and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
  • Document test configurations, results, and evidence per processes.
  • Reproduce defects, collect logs, and assist root-cause analysis with developers.

  • Support requirements reviews and traceability for complete verification coverage.
  • Participate in test readiness reviews and report risks and blockers.
  • Follow safety, cybersecurity, and quality procedures for aerospace software testing.

Position Overview

The Junior Software Test Engineer will support the planning, execution, and documentation of software verification activities for Griffon Aerospace's unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role develops and runs repeatable tests, investigates unexpected results, and helps maintain objective evidence that software requirements have been correctly implemented. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically curious, and ready to grow within a disciplined aerospace software environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute software test procedures from approved requirements, designs, and interface documentation.
  • Perform functional, integration, regression, and system-level testing in laboratory and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
  • Document test configurations, procedures, results, anomalies, and objective evidence in accordance with established processes.
  • Reproduce software defects, collect relevant logs and data, and work with developers to support root-cause analysis.
  • Maintain test scripts, test data, simulators, and laboratory equipment under configuration control.
  • Support requirements reviews and traceability activities to help ensure complete verification coverage.
  • Participate in test readiness reviews and communicate test status, risks, and blockers to the project team.
  • Follow safety, cybersecurity, configuration-management, and quality procedures applicable to aerospace software testing.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 0–2 years of software test, software development, systems integration, or related engineering experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of software test methods, defect tracking, and requirements-based verification.
  • Experience with at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, C, C++, or Java.
  • Ability to read technical requirements, follow controlled procedures, and produce clear, accurate test records.
  • Basic familiarity with version control and issue-tracking tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, teamwork, and written communication skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. SECRET security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship, academic, or professional experience testing embedded, real-time, aerospace, defense, or UAS software.
  • Exposure to automated testing, continuous integration, hardware-in-the-loop systems, or laboratory instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with DO-178C, MIL-STD-882, requirements traceability, or software configuration management.
  • Experience working in Linux environments and analyzing logs, network traffic, or serial communications.
