Job summary

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to join the S3I Joint Technology Center–Systems Integration Lab in Huntsville, AL. You will support design, development and optimization of UAS-related software, collaborate with hardware and network teams, and contribute to documentation and system architecture.

The role requires a BS/MS in computer science or related field with 1+ year of software development experience, proficiency in OO languages (Java, C++, C#) and scripting

Qualifications

• BS degree in computer science or related technical field with 2-4 years of experience or MS degree in computer science or related field.
• Experience with object-oriented programming in multiple languages such as Java, C++, and C#.
• Experience using Gitlab CI/CD.
• Experience with Bash, Python, or PowerShell including automation of installations.
• Understanding of general computing system architectures and virtual machines/containers.
• Strong command line experience with UNIX-based OS or Windows command line.
• 1+ year of professional software development experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain an active Secret clearance.
• Residence in Huntsville, AL or willingness to relocate to Huntsville, AL area.

Leidos Defense Sensors’ Uncrewed Systems Integration and Test is seeking a motivated and ambitious Junior Software Engineer to join the Software, Simulation, Systems Engineering and Integration Directorate (S3I) Joint Technology Center – Systems Integration Lab (JSIL) Technology and Certification Center. Primary Responsibilities

• Software Development & Optimization: Support the design and implementation of software solutions, ensuring high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code. Assist with efforts in debugging, and optimization for large-scale systems.


• Documentation & Communication: Responsible for creation of detailed technical documentation, including system designs, APIs, and architectural diagrams. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and executives.


• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with managers, hardware engineers, network engineers, and other stakeholders to implement system requirements and ensure seamless integration between software, hardware, and network components.


• Innovation & Technology Evaluation: Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends, new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that improve the development process and system performance.

Basic Qualifications

• BS degree in computer science or related technical degree plus 2-4 years of prior relevant experience or MS degree in computer science or related technical degree plus 1-2 years of prior relevant experience.


• Experience with object-oriented programming in multiple languages such as java, C++, and C#.


• Experience using Gitlab CI/CD.


• Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell including the automation of system and application installations is required.


• Understanding of general computing system architectures and virtual machines/containers.


• Strong command line experience with UNIX based operating system or Windows command line configuration is required.


• Strong analytical and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and projects and to work independently.


• 1-year+ professional software development experience.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Must be a US citizen, possess be able to maintain an active Secret clearance.


• Must be a resident of Huntsville, AL or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Atlassian workflow management software.


• Experience with software development and testing


• Experience with Uncrewed Aircraft Systems.


• Experience using Gradle.


• Willingness to be hands-on with the hardware away from assigned desk.

Pay Range $69,550.00 - $125,725.00
