Job summary

ProServeIT is seeking an IT security specialist to join a security operations team. You will monitor security events, assist in investigations, and help harden client environments across varied projects.

The role involves following established processes for event detection, filtering, and escalation, with opportunities for professional growth and certifications. Remote Canada-based role with a fast-paced team environment.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in a SOC environment.
• Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems.
• Understanding of TCP/IP and Internet protocols.
• Familiarity with Wireless Networking.
• Experience with SOC/Information Protection Centers.
• Experience with Enterprise SIEM systems.
• Knowledge of VPN protocols and devices.
• Understanding of security concepts (least privilege, compartmentalization).
• Firewall configuration knowledge.
• Asset management and security countermeasures.
• Ability to conduct forensic analyses and investigations.
• Ability to obtain Security+ certification within 3 months of hiring.

Responsibilities

• Follow documented event detection processes using security alerts and health alerts.
• Open or update service desk tickets to track events through their lifecycle.
• Assign events to the appropriate owner and document findings.
• Document requests for event filtering and assign to resources.
• Collect relevant data and perform analysis to determine relationships and severity.
• Communicate investigation data to clients or internal contacts.
• Report recurring problems and contribute to process improvements.

What you will do:

Follow an established, documented process for event detection including but not limited to:

• Receipt of SecurityAlerts, (and Operational Health Alerts from Security Devices) frommonitoreddevices and associated technology.
• Acknowledgement of receipt of the event.
• Openingnew service desk tickets or update existing ticketsin order totrack event handling through its lifecycle to resolution and closure.
• Assignment of the event ticket to theappropriate owner.

2. Event Filtering

• Followestablishedprocess for identification of events that require filtering.
• Document requests for event filtering in the service desk ticket.
• Assignment of the event ticket to the appropriately defined resource.
• In the event ofclient request for filtering of certain event types, follow the established process for completing that request.
• Follow an established process for the purposes or collecting relevant data and performing the necessary level of analysis on that data.
• Determinerelationships between the event, client services,technologiesandprevioustickets.
• Determineif the relationshipswarrantan increase in severity, andsubsequentreprioritization in escalation.
• Document findings in the service desk ticket as they are discovered.
• Follow an established process for transmitting event investigation data to theappropriate pointof contact, whether that point of contact is an external client, or an internal resource.
• Report recurring problems and issues discoveredduring the course ofyour duties.
• Provide action plans detailing specifics of:
• What the eventindicates(Event Description)
• Why it is important for the client (What the potential Risks are to the business)
• What actions the client can take to remediate the current event, and prevent future instances of this event

5. Event closure

• Followestablishedprocess to ensure that resolution criteria are met before closing tickets.

• A Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 2+ years of experience in a SOC environment
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:
• Windows Server Operating Systems
• Internet Connectivity and Protocols (TCP/IP)
• Wireless Networking
• Security Operations Centre/Information Protection Centre/Computer Incident Response Centre
• Enterprise Security Information Management systems
• VPN Communication Protocols and Switches/Routers (basic configuration)
• Network/System Intrusion Detection or Prevention Systems
• Understandingofbasic security concepts: Principle of Least Access, Compartmentalization etc.
• Firewall(configuration knowledge)
• Asset Management,Securitythreatand attack countermeasures
• Ability to conduct in-depth forensic analytical studies and investigations
• Ability to earn the Security+ certification within 3 months of hiring, if not already completed
