Job summary

UCSF Health in San Francisco seeks a Jr. Ophthalmic Photographer to organize and operate all technical functions of the eye photography practice.

The role involves ophthalmic photography, scans and testing, with precise documentation of the patient’s visit and care. The incumbent performs complex photography including Retinal Angiography, and may assist as a clinical technician for patient work-ups and preliminary testing before the Provider's examination.

Qualifications

  • Certified Ophthalmology Assistant (COA®) or above.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in clinical ophthalmology/optometry
  • AHA CPR/BLS (including patient assessment and vital signs)
  • Advanced knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology and terminology
  • Understanding of how anatomic systems and systemic disorders may affect the visual system
  • Demonstrated experience in patient instruction/education
  • Demonstrated ability in caring for and directing the blind or partially sighted patient
  • Demonstrated experience in ophthalmic instrumentation cleaning and maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience in minor surgical assisting and surgical set-up
  • Possesses the ability to work with intermittent standing and sitting for 8-9 hours/day
  • Good communication and organization skills, professionalism and motivation
  • Under the direction of the Manager, actively works toward TJC compliance
  • Demonstrated experience in responding to a patient emergency while in the clinic

Responsibilities

  • Perform ophthalmic photography, scans and testing with precision.
  • Document patient visits and care clearly and accurately.
  • Assist in ophthalmic testing and Retinal Angiography when ordered by Providers.
  • Support clinical technician duties including patient care work-up and preliminary testing for examinations.
