Job summary

SAM in Austin, TX is seeking a Junior Network Administrator to join the IT team and safeguard day-to-day network and voice services. You’ll help manage Cisco-based LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, VoIP, security devices, and monitoring tools, ensuring high availability in a secure data center environment.

You will collaborate with teammates on incident response, capacity planning, and routine audits, while guiding help desk staff and supporting after-hours on-call tickets.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of managing networks with Cisco LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, and VoIP in a secure data center.
  • Strong customer-service attitude and collaborative mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational & technical support for network and voice services.
  • Monitor SLA metrics for incidents, changes, and problems; assist in capacity planning.
  • Assist in developing help desk and intern staff; cover after hours on call.

Your Impact at SAM

The Junior Network Administrator will be a member of the IT team and will assist in the day to day operation and maintenance of SAM data and voice networks.

  • Provide day to day operational & technical support for the following:
    • Network routing and switching
    • WAN optimization technologies
    • SD-WAN
    • Firewall and IPS\IDS security devices
    • MPLS, DMVPN, AVPN, ISP
    • VoIP, SIP, phone services
    • Network monitoring
    • Wifi solutions
  • Monitor incident, change request and problem SLA metrics
  • Provide recommendations based on availability and capacity planning and long term strategic planning
  • Conduct routine hardware and software audits of data and voice equipment to ensure compliance with established IT standards, maintenance status, policies and configuration guidelines
  • Assist in developing and coaching help desk and intern staff
  • Cover after hours on call tickets and triage escalated to support teams
What You Bring to SAM
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Technology or job experience related equivalence
  • 1 to 2 years' experience in managing networks with demonstrated experience in maintaining a Cisco based LAN, WAN (with optimization or QoS), SD-WAN, wireless network with high availability in a secure data center environment
  • 1 to 2 years' experience in managing a VOIP implementation
  • Successful as a key contributor in at least 2 large projects; Large projects are defined as having more than 3 participants or a budget of over $100k or a timeline of 4 months or longer
  • Professional with a “Customer Service” attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical groups
  • Project management leadership experience
  • Motivated and results oriented with an ability to respond quickly in a dynamic environment
Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements
  • ITIL foundations certification preferred
  • N+ certification preferred
  • CCNA\CCIE certifications a plus
  • Any other technology certifications a plus
