Job summary

The Public Works & Utilities division in Wichita, KS is seeking a skilled Automotive/Heavy Equipment Mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment across five shops.

Candidates should have ASE certifications, a valid Kansas CDL, the ability to diagnose with scan tools, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds; ASE policy compliance is required. This role requires physical labor and safe operation of heavy machinery.

Qualifications

• ASE certifications preferred.
• Valid Kansas CDL required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Welding and cutting ability.
• Ability to read repair manuals and use diagnostic tools.
• Ability to work at heights up to 25 feet.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 100 feet.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Run engine diagnostics with scan tools or laptops.
• Test drive vehicles to verify drivability and repairs.
• Remove/replace parts for mechanical and electrical systems.
• Repair exhaust, brakes, HVAC, driveline, and suspension systems.
• Assist with diesel/gas engine repair and transmissions.
• Tow vehicles as needed and maintain service records.
