Job summary

PacifiCorp is seeking a Material Failure Engineer I to support evaluation, analysis, and prevention of equipment failures across the utility’s transmission and distribution systems. Under supervision, you will help identify root causes, perform basic analyses, and contribute to corrective actions that improve reliability and safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials, or electrical engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • 0–1 year or more of relevant engineering experience in utility substations, transmission, and distribution or related industries.
  • Experience applying material failure analysis tools including X-ray spectroscopy, hardness testing, tensile testing, impact testing, and non-destructive evaluation methods.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in investigation and analysis of material, component, and equipment failures within transmission and distribution systems.
  • Assist with root cause analyses (RCA) using industry best practices and lab testing.
  • Support development of strategies to determine scope of affected materials and assets.
  • Help transition to a new material failure database and maintain accuracy.
  • Collaborate with standards engineering, supply chain, and operations to adjust material specifications.
