Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a dedicated Lifeguard to help create a safe, welcoming pool environment for all ages. You will monitor the pool area, enforce safety rules, perform chemical testing, and respond immediately to emergencies in line with YMCA policies.

This role requires current Lifeguard Certification, BLS/CPR, First Aid, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Training is provided, and pre-employment background checks apply as part of our commitment to the

Qualifications

• Minimum age 15.
• Current Lifeguard Certification is required.
• BLS/CPR training and First Aid certification required.
• Additional trainings as assigned within first week of work.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Demonstrate lifeguard skills per YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Review and follow emergency procedures; respond immediately when needed.
• Enforce pool safety rules and guidelines.
• Remain calm under pressure and communicate clearly.
• Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and health department.
• Support equipment checks and ensure availability of needed gear.
• Check pool for hazards on arrival and throughout shift.
• Perform chemical testing when not guarding and take appropriate action.

Nature And Scope

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, But Not Limited To)

• Support the lifeguard in maintaining active surveillance of the pool area.
• Know and review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.
• Know, understand, and consistently support safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
• Remain calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
• Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
• Support equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
• Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15
• Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
• Current Lifeguard Certification
• Additional trainings as assigned within first week of work
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
